SALISBURY — The community is invited to a “Concert of Remembrance” at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, downtown Salisbury on Nov. 5 at 4 p.m.

With singers from St. Luke’s, First Presbyterian, First United Methodist, First United Church of Christ, St. John’s Lutheran, Soldiers Memorial AME Zion and others from the greater community, the concert will be an opportunity for all to experience beautiful choral music while remembering departed loved ones.

The program features the Requiem by French composer, Gabriel Fauré. Composed in the late 1800s, it is the best-known of his large works. Its focus is on eternal rest and consolation. Fauré wrote that the work, “is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.”

In seven movements, the work is scored for soprano and baritone soloists and mixed choir. It will be performed at St. Luke’s with organists Michael Rowland, former artist associate at Davidson College and currently interim organist at First Presbyterian Church, Albemarle, and Dustin Shelton, director of music at Milford Hills United Methodist.

The program also includes anthems by Edgar Bainton, Geraint Lewis and Daniel Gawthrop. Soloists will include the St. Luke’s Choristers (youth choir), Mark Stephenson and Caroline Stephenson.

The concert is directed by Stephen Williams, director of music ministries at St. Luke’s Episcopal.

Admission is free, and all are welcome and invited. For more information, call 704-633-3221 or email swilliams@SLS.church.
