Pro Golf: Lyerly makes eagle, solid in Round 1

ADVANCE — Former East Rowan and UNC Greensboro standout Nick Lyerly turned in a strong round on Tuesday,

Lyerly shot 1-under 33-37 — 70 on the East Course at Bermuda Run.

His round included one birdie, two bogeys and an eagle 2 on the No. 13 hole.

Lyerly is competing through Friday in the second of four stages of PGA Tour Q-School. He is tied for 15th after the first round.

Nineteen golfers will advance to the next stage.

Lyerly made it through the “Pre-Qualifying Stage” at the Club at Irish Creek. This is the “First Stage.”

If Lyerly makes it to the Second Stage, he’ll play in mid-November.

The Final Stage is held at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The top five finishers (and ties) are awarded PGA Tour cards. Others will make the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Americas.
