HIGH POINT — With four new starters, Salisbury’s girls basketball team knows it’s going to be a learning process in the early going.

Especially against a brutal non-conference schedule.

The Hornets lost 61-47 to High Point Christian Academy in their opener on Friday in a game played in a tournament setting at Wesleyan Christian.

“We had our chances,” said coach Lakai Brice, who has guided the Hornets to back-to-back state titles.

Jamyrah Cherry, a transfer from Cannon School, led the Hornets with 18 points.

MaKayla Noble, a Division I signee and the lone returning starter, added 12 points. Keiara Spruill scored seven.

Kylie Torrence led High Point Christian with 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Courtney Taylor had 10 points, seven steals and six assists.

High Point Christian (3-0) also has won against the 1 of 1 Prep Academy and Hickory Grove Christian in the early going.
