SALISBURY — A police chase that began at the Tractor Supply Co. in Salisbury ended when the vehicle crashed into a fence outside of a Charlotte home early Wednesday morning.

The chase began when police responded to an alarm being set off at around 4 a.m. at the Tractor Supply Co. store on the corner of Jake Alexander Boulevard and Julian Road, according to a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department. There, they saw a silver car pull out of the parking lot. When police attempted to stop the car to investigate, the driver allegedly sped off.

The driver then turned onto southbound Interstate 85, allegedly driving speeds of more than 100 mph as they headed towards Charlotte. At some point during the incident, police ran the tag number and found that it was a fictitious license plate. Eventually the chase entered Charlotte, ending when the vehicle crashed into a fence around East Sugar Creek Road. The driver fled from the vehicle and was apprehended by officers a short time later, according to the spokesperson.

Police arrested the driver, identified as 30-year-old Jason Obriant Evans Jr. A search of the vehicle reportedly found a firearm.

Evans was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, felony flee to elude, resisting a public officer, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, possession of a firearm by a felon, felony maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances, driving while his license was revoked, reckless driving and speeding.

Evans was also served with warrants from Union and Mecklenburg counties. He was charged with attempting to obtain property under false pretenses from Union County and interfering with emergency communications, assault on a female, false imprisonment and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle from Mecklenburg County.

Evans was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center. He was not given a bond due to the Mecklenburg charges being related to domestic violence and a violation of the Pre-Trial Integrity Act.
