CHINA GROVE — Carson’s girls basketball team lost 47-27 to Concord on Friday.

It was a feel-good win for the Spiders, who didn’t get any South Piedmont Conference victories in 2022-23.

It was another learning experience for a rebuilding Carson team. The 27 points were a season high for the Cougars, but the stat sheet was still a long way from what head coach Chloe Monroe is hoping for. Carson shot 16 percent, didn’t make any 3-pointers and went 7-for-17 on free throws.

After scoring seven in the first half, the Cougars (0-3, 0-1) put up 20 after halftime. They will keep working.

Caylee Snow scored seven points, Rylee Hedrick had six points and eight rebounds. Brooklyn McBride scored five.

Eight Cougars scored. Several of them scored their first points of the season.

Emma Carpenter didn’t get any shots to fall but had nine rebounds and four steals.

Concord got 14 points from Myajah Nix, 11 from Kaylin Williams, nine from Natalie Nebrich and eight from freshman Taryn Blue.

Concord (1-3, 1-0) also played Saturday and lost 39-32 to Mount Pleasant.
