LEXINGTON — The North Hills boys basketball team lost a tough one on Monday.

The Eagles fell 56-54 on the road to a Union Grove team (10-3) that has been playing good basketball.

It came down to the final seconds.

Union Grove held Hayden scoreless in the first quarter and took a 13-6 lead.

Union Grove led 32-19 at halftime, but North Hills (8-2) made a charge in the second half.

“We were down as many as 17, but we fought back,” North Hills coach John Knox said. “We just didn’t play well in the first half. We’re still working on consistency and we’ll build on a strong second half.”

Malachi Strong added nine points and nine rebounds for the Eagles. Zachary Strickland scored five, while freshman AD Hawkins made a 3-pointer.

North Hills was good from the foul line (12-for-16) but couldn’t overcome 2-for-15 3-point shooting.

Hayden is still averaging 33.3 points per game.

North Hills will look to bounce back against Hickory Christian Academy at home on Dec. 12.
