SALISBURY — Last month, Mayor Karen Alexander and the rest of the Salisbury City Council were re-elected to new terms that lets them continue to serve the people of Salisbury for at least another two years.
At their Dec. 5 meeting, Alexander, Mayor Pro Tem Tamara Sheffield, along with council members David Post, Anthony Smith and Harry McLaughlin were sworn in as they start their new terms as elected officials. Sheffield was also re-elected as mayor pro tem.
All were joined by friends, family, and colleagues as they took the oath of office, which was administered by City Clerk Connie Snyder. At the end of the ceremony, they spoke on what being on the city council means to them and the people and groups that made their re-election possible.
Below are the comments shared by each elected official.
McLaughlin: “Thank you to everyone who voted, allowing us to be together again to work on some of the things that we started. Now we have an opportunity to finish those projects. We’re trying to make this city better every day.”
Sheffield: “We’re very fortunate to be able to work together, to bring different perspectives, and come to a consensus that moves, hopefully, everybody in the city forward.”
Post: “I especially would like to thank the management team here at the city. We ride on your shoulders and everything you do that makes the city look good, we get the credit for. I’m just so grateful for the city manager, city attorney for the team you put together.”
Smith: “I feel like we have a blessed city. I know we have our challenges, I know we have history here, I know we have a lot of things ahead of us that we’re going to have to tackle together as a team…There are people who have a true and authentic heart for this city and give and pour out for this community so I’m just grateful for this.”
Alexander: “It’s exciting what a team can do. Because I didn’t have an opponent this time, I campaigned for my team because it was important to me that we could keep doing the good work to make a Salisbury for everyone.”
