RICHMOND, Va. — Livingstone’s women’s basketball team played well enough to scare Virginia Union on Thursday, but not well enough to beat the Panthers.

Underdog Livingstone led by 10 in the third quarter and took an eight-point lead to the final 10 minutes, but Virginia Union dominated the fourth quarter and rallied for a 66-60 CIAA victory.

Both teams shot better than 48 percent, mostly 2s, as the 3-point line wasn’t a big factor for either club. They combined for only five makes.

Virginia Union (8-2, 2-0) had the advantage on the boards and earned 10 more free-throw attempts than the Blue Bears (1-3, 0-2). That made the difference.

Samiyah Briggs, a sophomore from Florida,  led Livingstone with 16 points. Makiyah Williams scored 15. Jamiah Lane had 14.

Ny Langley led the balanced Panthers with 13 points.
