DENTON — North Rowan’s girls basketball team will be playing the rest of the month without the Goodlett twins.

The senior twins are Bailee Goodlett, the team’s primary ball-handler and a prolific scorer averaging 27.8 points per game, and Bloom Goodlett, who gets about 6 points per game and usually makes a contribution in every statistical category.

The short-handed Cavaliers (4-1, 1-0) started slowly on Friday in their Central Carolina Conference opener on the road, but they eventually warmed up and routed South Davidson 65-23.

Brittany Ellis carried the offensive load, pouring in a career-best 33 points, while Kriststyle Stockton, who doesn’t normally look to score, had a career-high 17. Dasia Elder scored 12.

South Davidson (1-7, 0-1) led 8-6 six minutes into the game, but North had a flurry at the end of the first quarter to take control. A free throw by Stockton cut North’s deficit to one point. Then Ellis found Elder for a layup on an inbounds play for a 9-8 lead. A driving banker by Ellis made it 11-8, and Ellis stole the ball and got a layup to put North ahead 13-8.

North controlled the second quarter and took a 33-16 lead at halftime. Then the Cavaliers used their pressure and speed to blow out the Wildcats in the second half.

South Davidson was held to single-digit points four straight quarters.

Ellis made four 3-pointers and was credited with six rebounds. Elder made two 3-pointers. Stockton made a 3-pointer and had seven rebounds.

Zakiya Oglesby had six rebounds and three blocks. Anyrah Mills didn’t score but had five steals. Freshman Kanya Cowan got her first points of the season.
