Staff report

BOWIE, Md. — It really didn’t look like a winning stat sheet, but Livingstone’s men’s basketball team will take it.

The Blue Bears won a 71-67 grinder at Bowie State on Saturday night on the second leg of their three-game northern swing. Livingstone won at Virginia Union on Thursday and will wrap the CIAA road trip in Philadelphia against Lincoln.

Livingstone didn’t have great numbers — 38.2-percent shooting, only four 3-pointers, 20 turnovers.

Still, the Blue Bears (4-6, 2-1) who were down seven at the half and down nine with 10 minutes left, pulled it out in front of 613 disappointed fans at Jordan Arena.

The Blue Bears did it by committee, a classic team effort. No one scored more than 12 points, but 11 men got in the scorebook.

The biggest shot was by Nathan Montaque, who was also the hero of Thursday’s game.  Montaque’s 3-pointer with 1:22 on the clock turned a 62-63 deficit into a 65-63 lead, and the Blue Bears kept the lead the rest of the way.

Montaque and James Nipper had 12 points each. Pharoah Lassiter scored 10.

Kyree Freeman-Davis scored 21 for Bowie State (4-8, 0-3).
