LANDIS — Thousands of Landis residents lost power on Wednesday after a single vehicle collided with a utility pole on Old Beatty Ford Road.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. and involved a single Toyota Tundra. First responders at the scene indicated that the male driver was heading towards Landis when the truck ran off the road and struck the pole.
According to a highway patrolman working the crash, there was no evidence of speeding or impairment of the driver. No injuries were reported.
Landis’s town manager, Michael Ambrose, said in a phone call that Landis residents, as well as some people in China Grove and Kannapolis, could expect to be without power until after midnight.
Duke Energy feeds power to Landis through a transmission line and into a substation. Ambrose said it was that line that was impacted when the vehicle collided with and knocked down the utility pole.
The Duke Energy outage map showed 1,000 customers without power in Kannapolis.
