LANDIS — The Landis Police Department is holding a canned food drive starting next month.
“We decided to hold a food drive because it’s a great way to support our community and help those in need,” Chief Matthew Geelen said. “Plus, it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to come together and make a positive impact.
“We believe in the power of giving back, no matter the time of year.”
According to the chief, the department is seeking common items requested during food drives.
“We’re accepting non-perishable food items like canned goods, pasta, rice and more,” Geelen said. “Basically, anything that doesn’t require refrigeration and has a longer shelf life. Every donation is appreciated and will make a difference.”
Anyone who wishes to contribute can drop off donations at the Landis Police Department, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Every little bit helps, so thank you in advance for your generosity,” Geelen said.
With the holidays soon to be in the rearview mirror, the chief does not want people to let go of the generous spirits that take over around Christmas.
“Holding the food drive in January allows us to extend the spirit of giving beyond the holiday season,” Geelen said. “It’s a time when people may still be in a giving mood and looking for ways to make a positive impact in the new year. Plus, it’s a great way to start off the year by helping those in need.”
Geelen said that his department would not actually distribute the food but was instead seeking a local nonprofit that specializes in distribution to those in need.
“They’ll have the resources and expertise to ensure that the food reaches the people who need it the most,” Geelen said. “It’s all about making a direct impact and helping as many individuals and families as possible.”
