SALISBURY — Police are searching for a man that they say impersonated a veteran in order to steal $6,500 from the victim’s bank account on Thursday, December 21.
A male subject went into the F&M Bank, located at 102 S. Avalon Dr., and attempted to withdraw money from a bank account using a military identification card, according to a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department. The spokesperson said that police believe the man somehow acquired a veteran’s ID card, but that he also could have used a counterfeit one. The man was allowed to take $6,500 in total from the account. When the victim’s wife showed up at the bank and looked at the account reports, she noticed the transaction on the account.
The wife then notified the police that someone had stolen money from them. She said that her husband could not have gone to the bank and taken money out of their account without her because he was disabled and could not make the trip to the bank on his own.
Police have obtained images of the suspect from security cameras located inside the bank and are working to identify him, according to the spokesperson. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333.
