GRANITE QUARRY — A fire that began in a Granite Quarry home’s carport and spread into the attic was brought under control before it could do any heat damage to the inside of the home, a fire official on scene said.
The fire began around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the home, located in the 200 block of South Walnut Street. The official said that it began outside the home and under the carport, and by the time firefighters arrived on scene and began their efforts it had spread into the attic of the home and smoke was showing from the roof. Firefighters were able to get a quick knockdown on the fire and prevent it from spreading into the interior of the home. The interior did suffer from extensive smoke damage, according to the official.
Granite Quarry Fire Department was the first on the scene and had command of the firefighting efforts. Salisbury, Rockwell and Faith fire departments also responded along with Rowan Rescue squads. Officers from the Granite Quarry-Faith Joint Police Authority shut down South Walnut Street in front of Granite Quarry Elementary School during the duration of the efforts.
No one was injured in the fire.
The official on scene said that the cause of the fire was undetermined, but that the investigation was ongoing.
