SALISBURY — Two suspects are still at large after a vehicle chase that police say began in Mecklenburg County ended with three people jumping from a truck and fleeing on foot near China Grove.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department notified deputies with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office around 9:30 p.m. on Friday that they were chasing a black Dodge Ram truck north on Interstate 85 and were about to enter Rowan County, according to a spokesperson for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies then joined in the chase.

The vehicle pursuit ended when the truck crashed near the 1800 block of Lentz Road, near the Propst Farm Lane intersection. Three people jumped out of the truck and ran from police, the spokesperson said. One suspect was taken into custody shortly after leaving the truck, but the other two were able to escape despite an extensive police search, which utilized drones and a helicopter. Deputies and Rowan K-9 units assisted in the search.
