SALISBURY — Just short of 100 runners and a couple dozen volunteers came out to The Forum early morning on Monday, Jan. 1, with two goals in mind at the Bradshaw Rogers Financial Partners 5k. Those goals were for a New Years Day commitment for consistent wellness for 2024 while all registration fees from the event will be donated to Rowan Helping Ministries. Entry fees were the lowest of the year for a local race in hopes that more new runners and walkers would decide to participate and enjoy the competition.
The volunteers came from Rowan Helping Ministries, the Salisbury Rowan Runners and The Forum.
The Forum co-owner Matt Marsh said, “The Resolution 5k is always a great way to start the year! There is no better way to start the New Year than by setting fitness goals and helping Rowan Helping Ministries at the same time.”
Froilan Frutos of Statesville paced the field with a time of 18 minutes and 48 seconds while 17-year-old Gatsby Goode paced the women with a time of 19 minutes and 56 seconds. A total of 91 runners and walkers finished. Top ten male awards went to Frutos, Ayden Brown, Caleb Efird, Peyton Scarboro, Parker Swicegood, Bobby Aswell, Jr., Jason Oliphant, David McCann, Steve Staley and Matt Teixeira.
Female top ten awards went to Goode, Valen Chapel, Cheyenne Swing, Cynthia Holland, Maggie Manno, Lori Reader, Mackenzie Chabala, Amy Richardson, Jane Falls and Abbey Nixon. Complete results are posted at www.salisburyrowanrunners.org.
Sponsors for the event in addition to Bradshaw Rogers Financial Partners were The Trophy House, Novant Health and the City of Salisbury. The Salisbury Rowan Runners and The Forum co-hosted the event which began in 2015.
