KANNAPOLIS — With the latest election cycle gearing up, Kannapolis voters should take a moment to check their North Carolina voter information.

Out of the 154,003 registered voters (as of Jan. 3) in Cabarrus County, 147,635 will see changes to their ballots beginning with the March 2024 primary election.

In October of 2023, the North Carolina General Assembly approved new voting maps. Due to this redistricting, 38 of 39 Cabarrus precincts have either a N.C. House, N.C. Senate or congressional district change.

Cabarrus County Board of Elections Director Carol Soles encourages voters to visit the state board of elections online voter search tool at vt.ncsbe.gov/reglkup/ to view its updated information.

The site provides voters with a wide variety of details, including their:

  • Jurisdictions
  • Voting locations
  • Sample ballots
  • Absentee ballot information
  • Voter history

Voters can find updated ballot district changes under the “Your Jurisdictions” section.

Soles also encourages voters to view and print out their sample ballot before heading to the polls. “This will look nearly identical to your election ballot, allowing you to see your jurisdictions and candidates as well as practice marking the ballot.”

During the last presidential primary in 2020, 39,558 of the county’s 139,313 registered voters cast a ballot.

This year, Primary Election Day is March 5. Cabarrus County Board of Elections will begin mailing absentee ballots on Jan. 19 and in-person early voting begins Feb. 15.

North Carolina residents can register to vote online or in person through the DMV, or by filling out the appropriate form available at www.ncsbe.gov/registering/how-register and submitting by mail.
