Kannapolis police investigating fatal shooting

KANNAPOLIS — Kannapolis police officers are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another person in the hospital on Sunday.

The shooting occurred at approximately 2 a.m. at the S&M E-Juice store located at 1121 S. Cannon Blvd. When officers responded to reports of a shooting, they found two people at the location that had been shot, according to a release from the city of Kannapolis. Both victims were transported to Atrium-Cabarrus Hospital.

The victim killed in the shooting was identified as 23-year-0ld Shovontae Shikim Byers, a Kannapolis resident. The other victim was identified as 28-year-old Quentin Parhams from Concord. The released stated that Byers died from his injuries at the hospital. Parhams is listed as having suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
