My Turn: Michael Chapman: Lets protect our children in 2024
Published 12:00 am Sunday, January 7, 2024
Most everyone believes that their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and kids next door are all protected from the predators of the world. You better think again! Most predators don’t have to go get your children. Children are freely going to their captors. Lured in by the social media sites that they stay on every day of the year. Why? Many children see no hope for their future. The majority of children are getting a poor education; are not taught in our schools Godly principles of right and wrong; and have turned to drugs and alcohol. Did you know that the average age of children who are trafficked are only 13? Did you realize that these predators love preying on children near major interstates?
You need to get all of the facts. Dr. Jim Duncan, executive director of Project Light Rowan, will be the special guest speaker, sharing facts about human trafficking.
Prior to his information, there will be a brief update about the new charter schools coming to Rowan County. You will not want to miss this.
The event will be at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 8, at First Reform Church, 210 N. Central Ave. in Landis, in the fellowship hall across from the Post Office. It will be sponsored by the Great American Eagle Society and First Reform Church.
