GRANITE QUARRY — Drake Jones got back on track and Jonathan Wembolua did what he’s done all season, but East Rowan still fell short on Wednesday.
A.L. Brown took a 61-54 non-conference win in the East Rowan gym. East (2-11) led at halftime but couldn’t hold off the short-handed Wonders, who didn’t have Noah Hancock or Caleb Ford.
Jones, a shooter who transferred to East from Rockwell Christian, put up 13 3-point attempts, made five and scored 20 points.
It was the fourth time this season he’s scored 20 or more.
Wembolua has put up a lot of double-doubles. He accounted for 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Jones had four steals, while Ti’Jon Everhart had four assists. Daelyn Gibson contribued eight points.
But East shot only 30 percent from the field and got only five points at the foul line. Those two things were tough to overcome.
“We came out a little flat in the second half, and A.l. Brown hit some outside shots and got the lead,” East coach Andrew Porter said. “We stayed close, but couldn’t get over the hump. We had some 3-point looks to take the game, but we just didn’t hit them.”
A.L. Brown (7-6) got 14 points from Jaylon Adams, 11 from TR Brewer and 10 from Nazir Reaves.
“Still looking for some consistency,” A.L. Brown coach Jonathan Efird said.
EAST — Jones 20, Wemboula 15, Gibson 8, Butler 4, Lino 3, Arnez 3, Everhart 1.
