Mount Zion Missionary Baptist hosts MLK event

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Salisbury Inc., will host the 47th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Wide Birthday and Humanitarian Awards Celebration Sunday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. The church is located at 1920 Shirley Avenue.
The guest speaker for this special occasion is the Rev. Dr. Randall A. Cain Jr., pastor of the Zion Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, Winston-Salem.
A native of Winston-Salem, Cain graduated from West Forsyth High school in 1985. He earned a bachelor’s degree in general science from Morehouse College, a bachelor’s in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech University, and a master’s of business administration from Harvard Business School. He earned the master’s of divinity degree at Hood Theological Seminary in the spring of 2015. Cain earned the doctor of ministry degree at Duke Divinity School in the spring of 2023 after completing the thesis, “The Redemption of Capitalism Through Christian Principles.”
Upon graduating from Harvard in 1994, Cain began a career in investment management. In 1997, Cain earned the designation as a chartered financial analyst (CFA). He has worked with Putnam Investments, NationsBank Investment Management, JP Morgan, NCM Capital, Herndon Capital Management, and Sustainable Insight Capital Management as an investment analyst and portfolio manager. In 2022, he founded Kerusso Capital Management LLC., where he serves as CEO and chief investment officer.
Cain has been able to give back to several institutions at the board level by serving on the board of trustees for Hood Theological Seminary, the SG Atkins Community Development Corporation, the Reynolda House Museum of American Art, the YMCA of the Northwest North Carolina Association, Financial Pathways of the Piedmont, Love Out Loud, and on the board of trustees for the Novant Health Triad Region.
Cain is married to his high school sweetheart, the former Cynthia Rorie. The Lord has blessed their marriage with five children — Hamilton, Grant, Olivia, Victoria and Preston.
The 2024 recipients of the Humanitarian Service Award are Leonard Hall and Erik Lipscomb. Music will be provided by The Friends and Family Community Choir under the direction of Milton Griffith. Triple Threat Dance and Charm, under the direction of Crystal Stukes, will also be program participants.
Michelle Cartwright, Mary Morgan and Jordan Nunley, 2023 graduates of Salisbury High School, will receive the S. R. & Eva H. Johnson Memorial Scholarship.
