College men’s basketball: Indians blast Bluefield State

SALISBURY — After a rough week that included a loss at Wingate and a home setback against Lincoln Memorial, Catawba’s men’s basketball team needed to beat somebody.

The Indians bounced back on Wednesday in a non-conference game, hammering Bluefield State 114-70 in front of 113 fans at Goodman Arena.

Catawba not only shot 54.5 percent against the CIAA school, the Indians were a stellar 12-for-25 on 3-pointers.

Bluefield State (6-11) was coming off an 11-day layoff, shot 38.6 percent and couldn’t keep pace. The Indians led 60-32 at the half.

Kris Robinson led the Indians (8-3) with 23 points. He shot 6-for-9 on 3-pointers.

Shad Thomas scored 16 on 8-for-10 shooting. DeAngelo Epps added 14 points, while Peyton Gerald and Justin Banks had 12 and Javeon Jones helped out with 10.

O’Mazeon Tinsley racked up six assists.
