SPENCER — North Rowan’s girls basketball team allowed three points against Thomasville earlier this season, an all-time defensive record for the program that was expected to last 50 years.
Instead that record lasted less than a month. North swamped South Stanly 58-2 in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
That’s right — two points allowed.
It was expected to be an easy win for North.
South Stanly (1-10) has struggled all season, but has usually managed to score a respectable number of points. South Stanly lost 64-31 early in the season to South Rowan. South Stanly scored 23 in a loss to Mount Pleasant on Tuesday. South Stanly’s previous low for the season was 11 points.
But North (9-3) caused problems with its defense, including six steals by Bailee Goodlett.
The Cavaliers led 22-0 after a quarter and by 41-0 at halftime.
The second half was played with a running clock. South Stanly got its only points in the third quarter.
Goodlett scored 14 of her 18 points in the first half. Brittany Ellis made three 3-pointers and scored 17.
Eight girls scored for the Cavaliers, who are 13th in the 1A West RPI rankings. South Stanly is 45th out of 56 teams.
