ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Former Jesse Carson High standout Jailen Williams made some key plays in Claflin’s 90-78 CIAA win against Livingstone on Wednesday.

The game at Tullis Arena was tied at 35-all at halftime, but Claflin took control with a spree early in the second half that delighted 756 fans. Williams found the hot hands and assisted on two buckets in that decisive run.

After a stellar 2022-23 season, Williams has struggled this season with an injured ankle, but he was able to contribute six assists, four points and three rebounds in 21 minutes.

Claflin (8-6, 5-1) got a huge game from 6-foot-8 Zion Obanla, who scored 25, and from Bryson Dennis, who had 17 points and 10 assists.

Livingstone (7-9, 3-4) got 15 points each from Khyree Temple and Nathan Montaque.

The turnovers, rebounding and shooting percentages were very even, but Claflin got 10 more points at the foul line and made seven 3-pointers, while the Blue Bears were 3-for-15 from the 3-point line.
