GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Catawba men’s basketball team has had better days.

The Indians struggled on the road on Saturday and lost 78-66 to Tusculum, one of the middle-of-the-pack teams in the South Atlantic Conference.

The 66 points was a season-low for the Indians (8-4, 5-3), who are now in some danger of becoming a middle-of-the-pack team themselves after a bleak stretch.

Catawba led 37-35 at the half in front of 396 fans after a Shad Thomas tip-in, but on a 36-percent shooting day that slim lead wasn’t going to last.

Catawba had 20 turnovers, which is very high for the Indians. Tusculum had 15 steals.

Javeon Jones scored 17 for Catawba. Justin Banks had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Thomas scored 10.

Connor Jordan scored 21 to lead the Pioneers (7-8, 5-4). Bryce Jackson scored 16.

Wingate won another-one point game on Saturday, edging Carson-Newman, and leads the league by two games over second-place Lincoln Memorial.
