High school girls wrestling: West wins SPC tournament

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan’s girls wrestling team added the South Piedmont Conference Tournament championship to its regular-season title.
West scored 116 points in the conference meet. Next were Northwest Cabarrus (68), East Rowan (56), Concord (24), Robinson (10) and Carson (4). South Rowan and Central Cabarrus didn’t have any girls in the tournament. Lake Norman Charter doesn’t compete in boys or girls wrestling in the SPC.
West Rowan weight-class winners were Hadley Perry (100),Waylan Collins (120), Brooke Cribbs (145), Brook Zino (152) and Ni’Ima Nelson (185).
East Rowan weight-class winners were Jasmyne Brown (107), Leah Edwards (114) and Kalena Faavesi (235).
Northwest Cabarrus winners were Kegan Barnhardt (126), Lila Bigos (138) and Victoria Gacek (165).
Robinson’s Brianna Watson won at 132.
East Rowan’s Edwards was named Most Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament and for the season.
West Rowan’s Tim Pangburn was named SPC Coach of the Year.
