High school softball roundup: Strong start for East

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan’s softball team made its debut on Thursday and won an unusual doubleheader against two different South Piedmont Conference opponents.

East whipped Robinson 10-0 and blasted Lake Norman Charter 16-0.

Camryn Perkins, Eleni Miller and Madi Tigert put up the zeroes in the circle.

Miller and Maddie Roberts hit home runs.

Coach McNeely said it was a good effort defensively, at the plate and in the circle.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan opened with a 14-7 non-conference loss to Lake Norman on Thursday.

Arabelle Shulenberger homered for the Falcons. Shulenberger, Riley Haggas and Reese Poole had doubles.

Haggas drove in two runs. Ella Doby and Lacey Houghton had two hits.

West had 12 hits, but coach Jimmy Greene said his team struggled with jitters and made five errors.

CHINA GROVE —  Carson (1-3) lost 12-7 to North Iredell in a non-conference game played on Thursday.

Caroline Snow had three of Carson’s 10 hits, while Abigail Harrelson had two.

Caylee Snow and Madison Clark had doubles.

Caylee Snow and Harrelson did the pitching.

Carson led 4-3 after three innings, but North Iredell took control with a three-run fourth.
