SALISBURY — A man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Thursday in connection to the killing of a 35-year-old man in 2022.
Dequan Quinshaun Hairston, 21, was arrested by the Salisbury Police Department and served with an arrest warrant for murder with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and the Kannapolis Police Department, according to a release from Salisbury.
The release stated that the warrant was connected to the killing of 32-year-old Michael Dwayne Connor Jr., which occurred on March 3, 2022. Connor was found in a parking lot off of Freeland Drive after being shot just before 9 p.m. on that day, according to previous Salisbury Post reporting. Police reportedly attempted life-saving measures on scene but were unsuccessful.
Police released photos of a person of interest in the case 11 days later, but arrests were not made in the case until Thursday. It is unclear whether the person of interest was Hairston.
Hairston was placed in the Cabarrus County Detention Center and was not given a bond, according to the release. Jail records indicate that he has since been moved and is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.
