SALISBURY — Police have a suspect in custody after a shooting on Saturday night caused one person to be transported to the hospital .

A large police presence was in the area of the 14th Street and North Lee Street intersection late Saturday night. Fire and EMS personnel were also on scene.

The response was due to a shooting that had occurred in the area, a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department said. One victim was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital after the shooting.

The large number of officers and vehicles was due to the possibility that the suspect in the shooting could have escaped into a residence in the area where the incident occurred, according to the spokesperson. Officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect.

Josie Jessica Jimenez, 22, was arrested and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records.

The severity of the victim’s injuries are currently unknown. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
