KANNAPOLIS — Anita Parker was elected to a third term on the Kannapolis Board of Education on March 5 after not having to run against another candidate for a seat.
“I enjoy being on the board of education and I look forward to serving four more years,” Parker said. “I love what I do and I think that we have done a lot of good things. This will be my third term, so in my last two terms I think we got a lot of things accomplished and I think we will continue to get a lot of things accomplished.”
Parker has been on the board since 2016 after being a schoolteacher for over 40 years, 22 of which were in Kannapolis. After her retirement, Parker was committed to sustaining her higher education career in any possible way.
“I did not want to discontinue my contact with schools. I wanted to be sure that I could stay in contact and stand for teachers since I had been one,” Parker said.
Now that she’s won, Parker will have four more years to fulfill the numerous undertakings the school system is in the process of completing.
“We’re working toward getting an additional building on the A.L. Brown campus because it’s growing so fast, we’re working on a wing at Fred L. Wilson because they’re at capacity and they’re still growing, so we’re working on building a new extension over there,” Parker said. “We also are trying to increase our CET classes at the middle and the high school so kids have more and more opportunities to get involved in different kinds of things.”
Kevin Clark, who also was elected to another term on the Kannapolis Board of Education, did not return the Salisbury Post’s calls for comment regarding this story.
