Rev. Harris’ voting irregularities scandal

I read with interest Rev. Harris’ quote regarding the “manufactured scandal” from his aborted 2018 bid for the U.S. House. Having lived in his district during that time, I can assure you this was not a manufactured scandal. His statement that he now truly understands the “extremes Democrats will go to in order to advance their woke, leftist agenda,” is exactly why this reverend should not be elected. The voting irregularities he participated in (and in which his own son testified against him about) should disqualify him from running from office. Please don’t associate yourself with God, Mr. Harris, until you’ve asked for God and our forgiveness. You are a disgrace and example of what’s wrong with the Republican Party today.

Recycling center should not be self serve

I don’t mind the self checkout at grocery stores. I don’t mind the self order kiosk at McDonald’s. But I draw the line at doing someone’s work while they are getting paid and I’m not.

That’s what’s up at the Long Street recycling center in Spencer. Recycling is something that takes work. It’s easier to just put garbage in a trash bag and toss it. But in recycling, one must separate, organize, break down boxes and transport to the facility, as my 65-year-old mom does. Yet when she gets there, young able-bodied men come out and tell her to “help out” and empty some of these boxes herself. Mom told them she doesn’t get paid to do their job, bless her heart. But each time they scold her and tell her she needs to move each box to that area and she should help them.

I’m asking Rowan Recycling to please state rules regarding this. Our taxes pay these men, and if it weren’t for these volunteer recyclers like mom, they wouldn’t have a job. And taxpayers, especially our seniors, should stay in the car while the recycling is unloaded in Spencer. And it wouldn’t hurt for these men to be respectful of the recyclers.
