Pennsylvania man charged with robbing Kannapolis bank

KANNAPOLIS — A Pennsylvania man has been arrested after police said he robbed a Wells Fargo in Kannapolis.
Police responded to the Wells Fargo bank located at 1501 S. Cannon Blvd. at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Friday in reference to a robbery that had occurred, according to a release from Kannapolis. Employees provided officers with a description of the suspect and officers in the immediate area of the bank reportedly observed the suspect nearby.
A short foot pursuit ensued, after which the suspect was apprehended, according to the release. Officers were reportedly able to recover the stolen money along with a firearm.
Damien Angelo Matthews, 22, was arrested and placed in the Cabarrus County Jail. The release states that Matthews was wanted in Virginia on robbery charges and jail records list him as being served with two warrants for arrest.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
