SALISBURY — A woman was arrested in connection to a shooting that left one woman in the hospital in October of 2023.
On Oct. 18, 2023, police responded to the parking lot of the YMCA on Jake Alexander Boulevard in response to a woman that was suffering from a gunshot wound, said a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department.
Porshia Leondra Walker, 36, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. She was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and is being held without a bond, according to records from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began at a home in the 800 block of South Jackson Street, when the victim traveled to the home to speak to the suspect. As the victim got out of her car to approach the house, Walker allegedly exited her apartment with a firearm in her hand. As the victim got back into her car in an attempt to leave the property, Walker began to shoot at the vehicle, the spokesperson said. At least one round struck the victim as she drove away.
The victim then escaped to the YMCA and called 911.
