College softball: Indians drop doubleheader at LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. — Kary Hales hit another home run, her fifth of the season, but there weren’t many highlights for Catawba softball team on Sunday at Lincoln Memorial.
Hales, who starred at Carson, is batting .355 with 30 RBIs.
Catawba’s pitching staff is short-handed right now, and the Indians took 10-2 and 9-3 losses in a doubleheader against the Railsplitters.
In the 10-2 setback, Riley Tucker took the loss in the circle, but she had two hits at the plate. Hales and Brianna Gallagher had the RBIs.
In the 9-3 defeat, Brianna Herring took the loss. Hales had a solo homer and a sac fly. Gallagher had the other RBI.
Catawba (16-16, 4-4) is tied for sixth in the South Atlantic Conference. Lincoln Memorial (19-15, 6-4) is fifth.
Lenoir-Rhyne, the fourth-place team, visits Catawba’s Whitley Field on Tuesday. Lenoir-Rhyne coach Shena Hollar got her 1000th career win (955 at Lenoir-Rhyne) over the weekend in a sweep of Mars Hill.
