High school basketball: Harris helps NC boys win Carolinas Classic; double-double for West’s Arnold

WILMINGTON — Salisbury’s Juke Harris, a Wake Forest recruit, scored 12 points and helped the North Carolina all-stars roll 109-91 in the Carolinas Classic.

Harris played 22 minutes. He shot 5-for-11, including 1-for-4 on 3-pointers. He was 1-for-2 on free throws. He had five rebounds, three steals and an assist.

Harris was named first team on the North Carolina Coaches Association All-State team on Sunday.

The Carolinas Classic all-star game, a N.C. vs. S.C. basketball version of the Shrine Bowl, was played at Hoggard High School on Saturday evening. This was the 25th anniversary game.

Grant Hamilton, a Weddington shooter who is headed to Division III Roanoke, was named MVP after making nine 3-pointers and scoring 31 points.

Isaiah Evans, a Duke recruit from North Meck and the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year, scored 19 for the N.C. all-stars.

Maurio Hanson, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Chambers, scored 13. Bishop Boswell, a Tennessee recruit from Myers Park, scored 12.

Central Cabarrus twins Carson and Chase Daniel, Catawba recruits, didn’t score much, but shined in other areas, as is usually the case. They played 20 minutes each and combined for 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Cam Scott, a Texas recruit from Lexington and the S.C. Gatorade Player of the Year, led South Carolina with 21 points.

In the girls all-star game, South Carolina trailed by 15 points at halftime, but made a big rally in the fourth quarter to win 81-77.

Three North Carolina girls fouled out, including West Rowan senior Lauren Arnold, a Mars Hill recruit.

Arnold scored 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting and had a game-high 14 rebounds in 22 minutes.

Cape Fear’s Jayda Angel, an Elon recruit, led the N.C. girls with 24 points.

The South Carolina team was sparked by MVP Terriana Gray, a point guard from A.C. Flora High, near Columbia.

South Carolina won despite shooting 2-for-25 on 3-pointers.
