SALISBURY — Although rain threatened the event, Downtown Salisbury, Inc.’s Ring in Spring event still continued and brought a strong crowd on Saturday, March 23.
The event was originally planned to be held entirely outdoors, but the forecasted rain caused the city to move several of the children’s activities, such as pictures with the Easter Bunny and the live DJ, indoors to the Salisbury City Council chambers. BrickEd & More provided many of the games and activities for the events.
One of the main attractions, the egg hunt, was still able to go on as originally planned despite the weather. Twenty-six businesses, including Spanky’s, Caniche and the newly opened Alisa Paige Photography, throughout downtown hid eggs both inside and outside their businesses for children to discover.
Local Focal held their “Springfest” in conjunction with Downtown Salisbury’s event and invited over 40 pop-up vendors to sell crafts, clothing and many other products.
Several other local businesses also took the opportunity on Saturday to host their own events with the increased traffic downtown. Along with Local Focal, New Sarum Brewery hosted a pop-up market, Backcountry & Beyond held a demo cook for Traeger Platinum grills, Gunpowder & Lead Boutique put on a block party and South Main Book Co. hosted the Easter Bunny for their weekly Saturday storytimes.
The city had fire trucks and police cars set up behind city hall. Firefighters and police officers were on hand to show off all the bells and whistles on their vehicles as well as let the kids sit inside. Firefighters were also inside the building to talk to children and hand out plastic fire helmets.
The event began at 11 a.m. with the arts and crafts, photos, games and live DJ inside along with each of the businesses’ separate events. The Easter egg hunt began at 1 p.m. and ran for approximately an hour.
