MOUNT ULLA — Carson pitcher Daxton Savage cooled off a red-hot West Rowan team on Tuesday.

Savage struck out nine, with no walks, and threw a complete game as the Cougars beat the Falcons 8-2. West had won nine in a row since a 4-i loss to Carson in China Grove on March 8.

Carson (8-6, 6-3) put together a five-run sixth inning to break open a tight game.

Carson lost five in a row recently, but appears to be back on track and the sweep of West Rowan could be big in the battle for second place in the South Piedmont Conference.

Besides getting the job done on the mound, Savage had a double and two RBIs. Jayven Parks also drove in two for the Cougars.

Carson Kirk had two of Carson’s nine hits and scored twice. Nick Ayash also scored two.

Corbin Bailey pitched five innings for West (10-4, 6-4) and took his first loss of the season. Drew Burton relieved in the sixth.

Cole Blevins went 2-for-3 with an RBI for West. Burton had the other West RBI.

East (14-1, 9-1) scored three runs in the first inning to take charge against the Bulldogs (7-8, 3-6) in the SPC game.

Sophomore Harrison Ailshie had a dominating, two-way effort. He pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts, two walks and no earned runs. At the plate, Ailshie triple, drove in two runs and scored three.

McCall Henderson, who carried East to an 8-7 win against Northwest Guilford on Monday with seven RBIs, had two more for the Mustangs.

Mason Phelps and Nate Hayworth also had RBIs.

Tyler Kluttz pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs.
