SALISBURY — A man has been arrested after police said he stabbed one neighbor and assaulted another on Thursday.
Deputies responded to a home in the 1200 block of Poole Road after a man called and said a neighbor, identified as 50-year Daniel Squire McBride, had stabbed him in the arm and had then barricaded himself in the home next to the victim’s, according to a spokesperson for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
When they arrived, the deputies reportedly found the victim suffering from a minor laceration to his arm. The victim refused transportation to the hospital, the spokesperson said.
McBride allegedly called 911 when deputies arrived and told communications that he was not barricading himself inside the house, but was staying inside because he was afraid of the victim’s dog. He then came out and was detained by the deputies, according to the spokesperson. A deputy reportedly noticed that McBride appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.
While on scene, deputies spoke to a female who said that McBride had assaulted her by pushing her into a wall.
McBride was then arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a female.
The male victim told deputies that he rented the home from McBride and when he came home, McBride was angry and swinging a knife at him, according to the spokesperson. McBride allegedly told the deputies that he had confronted the neighbor but that he had not assaulted them and he was forced to run back inside the home because the dog was coming after him.
Reports indicated that while a deputy was in the magistrate’s office getting warrants for the charges, McBride continuously interrupted the two by cussing out the deputy and calling him a liar. McBride allegedly shoved the deputy multiple times when the deputy attempted to have him stand for a photo, causing the deputy to reportedly take him to the ground to get him under control.
The deputy then had McBride checked into the jail before going back to the magistrate’s office and getting another warrant for resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer. McBride was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $16,000 bond.
