SALISBURY — Police are investigating after Walgreens was defrauded of thousands of dollars when a person impersonated an employee and performed a Western Union transaction.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Walgreens located at 1906 West Innes Street, according to police reports. Two people came into the store and wanted to make a Western Union transaction, according to a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department.
One of the suspects allegedly told the cashier that she worked for another Walgreens and could show them how to perform the transaction. The suspect then proceeded to perform a $5,000 transaction and send the money to an “unknown person,” said the spokesperson.
The only description given to the police was that the female suspect was wearing a blue sweatshirt and the man she was with was wearing a blue baseball cap and a white shirt. The spokesperson said that police are continuing to investigate the incident.
