High school baseball roundup: East, West win again; Hornets beat Concord

OAKBORO — Sophomore Harrison Ailshie slugged his fifth and sixth homers of the season, both solo shots, as East Rowan won 9-6 at West Stanly on Wednesday.
Ailshie has scored 29 runs and knocked in 23. in addition to being an undefeated pitcher.
East (17-1) won its 10th straight game and stayed on top of the 3A West RPI rankings.
Joe Burleyson also homered for the Mustangs and drove in two runs.
Braden Shive was 2-for-2 with a triple.
McCall Henderson stayed hot with two more hits, including a double.
Henderson is batting .468 with 27 RBIs.
Burleyson pitched three innings. Mason Phelps was credited with the win. Cobb Hightower got the last two outs for a save.
East took the lead for good with a three-run fourth that provided a 4-2 lead.
East scored three insurance runs in the top of the seventh that proved to be decisive when the Colts made some noise in the bottom of the seventh.
West Stanly (12-3) is eighth in the 2A West RPI rankings.
East is scheduled to play at South Rowan on Friday.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan edged Lake Norman 5-4 in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday.
West rallied for the decisive runs in the fifth.
Cole Blevins had two hits and scored three runs for the Falcons (13-4).
Drew Burton, Brant Graham and Luke Ponczka had RBIs for the Falcons.
Maddox Moore pitched the first four innings. Graham pitched the last three and got the win.
Christian Sandoval hit a home run for the Wildcats (10-7).
West Rowan is ninth in the 3A West RPI rankings. Lake Norman is 21st in the 4A West RPI.
West is scheduled to play Concord at home on Friday.

SALISBURY — Salisbury beat Concord 8-3 in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
Evan Koontz was the winning pitcher for the Hornets (7-9). Hank Webb got the last four outs for a save.
Webb and Koontz also led the Hornets at the plate.
Webb went 3-for-3 with two doubles. Koontz had a double. They both drove in two runs.
Landon Tucker also had a double.
The Spiders fell to 3-13.
