SALISBURY — Salisbury tennis coach Roarke Burton described Wednesday’s 9-0 romp against East Davidson as a “routine win.”
With good reason. The Hornets never have lost a Central Carolina Conference match with the current alignment of teams.
Salisbury has won 10 CCC championships in the last 12 years. COVID knocked out the 2020 season. Ledford won in 2021 before moving up to 3A in 2022.
Salisbury (12-1, 9-0) got singles wins on Wednesday from AJ Jarrell, Gray Davis, Bryant Davis, Reid Hlavacek, Soyer Cornelison and Ben Lawson.
Doubles wins were by Jarrell/Gray Davis, Hlavacek/Cornelison and Lawson/Aiden Moss.
The No. 3 doubles win was notable, as it was the first varsity victory for Moss.

CONCORD — East Rowan lost 7-2 at Concord in South Piedmont Conference play on Wednesday, although it was much closer than it sounds.
East won the first set at 1, 3 and 4 singles, but in all three matches, Concord came back to win.
Blake Mathews won at No. 2 singles for the Mustangs, while Josh Gardner won at No. 6.

MOUNT ULLA — Northwest Cabarrus won 8-1 in SPC play at West Rowan on Wednesday.
Northwest (11-1, 11-1) is the closest challenger to Lake Norman Charter in the league.
Winning for West (5-8, 5-8) was Isaiah Wood. He won with relative ease at No. 5 singles.
