High school sports: Nixon resigns at Mooresville, will be Rowan County AD

MOORESVILLE — Joe Nixon informed Mooresville’s football team on Tuesday that he is resigning as head coach.
Mooresville has posted the job vacancy.
A Catawba graduate who also has been head coach at North Rowan and West Rowan, Nixon will be taking the position of Rowan County athletic director. He replaces Brad Hinson, who resigned recently to take the position of AD at Cox Mill High in Concord.
Nixon had a solid run of success at Mooresville, just as he did at North Rowan and West Rowan.
He was 30-12 in four seasons with the Blue Devils. Mooresville won the last two Greater Metro Conference championships.
His first head-coaching job was at North Rowan in 2012. His teams were 31-8 and won two conference championships in his three seasons in Spencer.
He was head coach at West Rowan for five seasons with a record of 41-25.
