Cannon Ballers Press release
KANNAPOLIS — As fans get ready to cheer on the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers during their 6 p.m. home game on Thursday, Joe Greene, the man affectionally know as Gaston County’s Santa Claus, will be making a rare spring appearance.
Not to deliver presents, but to share gratitude and raise awareness during Donate Life Month after he received a life-saving present.
In 2019, Greene’s health was failing, and he was in desperate need of a kidney. The care team at Atrium Health and a close family friend, Heather Phillips, sprang into action. She had been discreetly undergoing tests to see if she was a match — and she was! She graciously became a living donor and saved Joe’s life.
On Thursday, the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers and Atrium Health will celebrate this amazing pair who embody the spirit of bravery and selflessness. Together, Joe and Heather will throw out the first pitch at Atrium Health Ballpark.
