SALISBURY — The Rowan County Board of Commissioners will hold a special recognition for local residents who have been honored with Governor’s Service Awards during its upcoming meeting on Monday.
The Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards are given to North Carolinians who go above and beyond in serving their communities through their volunteering.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday and will be held at the Rowan County Administration building located at 130 W. Innes St. in Salisbury. The other agenda items that will be discussed include:
- The commissioners will hold a special recognition for the West Rowan High School girls basketball team. The team recently won their second straight state championship.
- The commissioners will recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
- The commissioners will hold a quasi-judicial hearing on a special-use permit for the expansion of an Express Corner gas station, located at 4095 Old Beatty Ford Road. The Shree Shree Askhar Cooperation is asking for the permit to replace the existing 24-foot-by-26-foot canopy with a new 42-foot-by-26- foot canopy. The permit is required because the gas station is a non-conforming use.
- The commissioners will hold a legislative hearing on a petition to rezone a property, located at the intersection of Freeze and Wright roads, from Manufactured Home Park to Rural Agricultural. The owner, Scott Beaver, is petitioning because the mobile home park has not been in use since 2009 and so that he can subdivide the property.
- The commissioners will hold a legislative hearing on a petition to rezone a property, located at 5120 U.S. Highway 601, from Neighborhood Business and Commercial Business Industrial with a Conditional District to Rural Residential. The owner, Brian Cranfield, is petitioning to rezone so that he can add a pool to the property, which is not allowed under the NB and CBI-CD. All commercial usages have reportedly been removed from the property and it is now solely used as a residence.
