High school baseball roundup: East, West get SPC wins

LANDIS — East Rowan’s baseball team won 7-1 at South Rowan on Friday.
Logan Dyer put together a terrific outing on the mound, throwing a complete game with 10 strikeouts.
Dyer, a Catawba recruit, is 6-0 with a 1.22 ERA.
Cobb Hightower scored three run for the Mustangs, who took control right away with a four-run first inning.
Dyer had hits. Joe Burleyson knocked in two runs. Nate Hayworth had a double.
Carter Rohletter had a strong long relief outing that kept South in the game, but the Raiders didn’t score until the bottom of the seventh.
East (18-1, 12-1) is expected to clinch an outright conference title at Concord on Tuesday.
• South (9-10, 5-7) lost 5-4 to Central Davidson on Saturday in the HiToms Classic at Finch Field. South scored four times in the first, but the Spartans tied the game in the fifth and won it in the seventh.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan (14-4, 8-4) won 9-0 against Concord (3-14, 2-10) on Friday.
Drew Burton pitched five innings of no-hit ball for the Falcons, striking out nine and walking two.
Alex Hagler and Eli Graham pitched an inning apiece and finished a combined one-hitter.
Cole Blevins led West’s offense with a 2-for-3 effort. Blevins and Brody Pope had doubles.
Brant Graham scored two runs. West’s 13 hits were scattered among 12 players.
West is still in the battle for second place and has a big game Tuesday against Northwest Cabarrus.
Concord takes on A.L. Brown at 6 p.m. Atrium Health Ballpark on Monday in the annual Jonathan Thacker Foundation game.
