High school boys tennis: Regular season ends Monday, with tournaments to follow

SALISBURY — The high school tennis season is winding down rapidly.
Salisbury’s boys team closes the regular season today against West Davidson.
The Hornets (15-1, 11-0) will celebrate Senior Day as they take on the league’s second-best team. The Green Dragons are 9-3 and 9-1 in the Central Carolina Conference.
The CCC Tournament will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The conference tournaments are qualifying events to determine the participants in the upcoming individual regionals.
The CCC is a split 1A/1A league, so it will send representatives to two different regionals.
Three singles players and three doubles teams from the CCC will advance to the 2A Midwest Regional that will be hosted by Salisbury on May 3-4.
The CCC also will send one doubles team and one singles player to the 1A West Regional that will be staged in Elkin.

CONCORD — It’s been a competitive South Piedmont Conference boys tennis season.
Lake Norman Charter (16-0), Northwest Cabarrus (14-2) and Concord (11-5) finished at the top of the league standings.
East Rowan (9-7) finished fourth. Carson (7-8) will finish fifth if it wins on Monday against South Rowan to conclude the regular season.
West Rowan (7-9) is sixth.
The tennis playoffs were expanded last season and employ an RPI formula like soccer, baseball and softball to determine at-large bids and seeds.
That’s good news for the Rowan teams as East (22nd), Carson (24th) and West (29th) look like good bets to make the 3A state playoffs.
The SPC Tournament will be held at Les Myers Park in Concord and will be used as the qualifier for the regional. the SPC tourney gets under way on Tuesday.
Since the SPC is a nine-team league, it get a whopping number of representatives in the regional tournament, which also will be held at Les Myers Park (May 3-4).
Seven singles players and seven doubles teams from the SPC will be in the regional, which also will include representatives from three other conferences.
