High school softball: Hornets win again; Carson loses at Butler

TRINITY — Salisbury’s softball team won its fifth straight game, taking a 6-0 road victory at Wheatmore on Monday.

It was a 1-0 game for a long time, but the Hornets got some breathing room with a three-run sixth and scored two more in the seventh.

Katie Peeler pitched the shutout. She allowed four hits, walked four and struck out 12.

Peeler scored three runs.

Ashley Yang had two hits, including a double. Jayla Robertson had two hits.

Yang, Allie Peeler and Addie Myers had RBIs.

The Hornets (11-7) have completed Central Carolina Conference play with a 9-3 record, but they’re looking to boost their RPI ranking this week with three non-conference games.

Wheatmore is 6-10.

The Hornets will play at Montgomery Central on Wednesday and will host Robinson on Thursday.

MATTHEWS — Carson lost 8-3 to Butler on Monday in a non-conference game.

Madison Clark, Alyssa Benner and Rylee Hedrick had hits for the Cougars (4-16).

Clark had two RBIs.

Caylee Snow pitched five innings and struck out four.
