High school tennis roundup: Salisbury, Carson win to close regular season

SALISBURY — Salisbury won 9-0 against West Davidson on Monday’s Senior Night.
The victory gave the Hornets (16-1, 12-0) their third straight undefeated Central Carolina Conference season.
West Davidson (9-4, 9-2), the second-place team in the CCC, was competitive in several matches.
Salisbury freshman AJ Jarrell won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Soyer Cornelison won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5. Ben Lawson won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
Gray Davis won handily at No. 2 singles, as did Bryant Davis at No. 3. Reid Hlavacek had the only 6-0, 6-0 match at No. 4.
Hlavacek and Cornelison are seniors.
Salisbury won all the doubles matches with no problem. Winning doubles teams were Jarrell/Gray Davis, Hlavacek/Cornelison and Lawson/Bryant Davis.
Next for both teams is the CCC Tournament, which will get started in Lexington on Tuesday.

CHINA GROVE — Carson won 8-1 at South Rowan on Monday to close the regular season for South Piedmont Conference teams.
Carson (8-9, 8-8) got singles wins from Karson Sloop, Will Welch, Griffen Bowman, Andrew Carter and Elijah Copic.
Carter/Bowman won at No. 2 doubles.
The team of Carsten Carey/Sawyer Basinger won for the Raiders (2-17, 0-16) at No. 1 doubles.
No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles weren’t contested.
Carson finished fifth and can expected to be in the state playoffs.
The SPC Tournament gets rolling at Les Myers Park in Concord on Tuesday.
