Granite Quarry Civitan Club recognizes outstanding scholars

GRANITE QUARRY — The 40th annual Civitan Scholars Banquet was held at East Rowan High School on April 18. Sponsored by the Granite Quarry Civitan Club, this event honors the top academic students in the 10-12th grades.
Steve Staton, president of the Civitans, presided more than 115 people in attendance. The Civitan Scholarship was awarded to Jadyn Featherstone, daughter of Jonathan and Sarah Featherstone, who will attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Denise Hallett, a graduate of East Rowan High School and N.C. State University with a degree in civil engineering, spoke about the academic and personal life skills necessary for obtaining their goals in life. She is the manager of government and community relations for Vulcan Materials Company.
Students honored include sophomores Harrison Ailshie, Gabrielle File, Cadence Hamilton, William Kesler, Gracelyn Lowe, Keegan Merrell, Cy Misenheimer, Kaley Pfister, Brett Steelman and Greyson Warden.
Juniors were Emery Basinger, Bethany Brady, Jasmyne Brown, Claudia Diggs, Sadie Featherstone, Noah Grooms, Briana Lyles, Blake Matthews, Emilee Potts, Andrew Thompson, Lindsey Whisnant and Jensen Whitman.
Seniors were Addison Duncan, Alexa Essary, Jadyn Featherstone, Nathan Hayworth, McCall Henderson, Owen Kesler, Landon Merrell, Madalyn Roberts, Braden Shive and Allie Treece.
