SALISBURY — Salisbury coach Matt Parrish was a winner for the 300th time at the helm of the school’s girls soccer program on Monday when the Hornets beat Lexington 3-0.

Parrish is 300-77-23 with the girls, so his 300th win came in his 400th game.

Parrish also coaches the boys at Salisbury with great success and has racked up 247 wins, including three state championships, in 13 seasons as head boys coach.

Monday was Senior Night, always a special occasion for Parrish. Senior keeper Brianna Escobar (first year), midfielder Tiffany Huerta (two years), and defensive stalwart/center back Stella Koontz were honored at halftime.

Over the course of the past three-plus seasons, the senior class compiled a 50-16-5 overall record, including 32-9-2 in the Central Carolina Conference. The Hornets have made the playoffs during each of those seasons.

 Meredith Williams provided the unassisted game-winner in the first half, a product of hard work and determination.

Addie Griffith doubled the lead in the latter half of the second frame on a season-best finish.

The final goal was scored by Maddie Crabb as the final seconds waned.

The result leaves Salisbury at 9-4-2 overall and 7-3-1 in the Central Carolina Conference.

“We started out a bit slow but again continued to work hard, particularly in the second half,” Parrish said.

Salisbury got an outstanding second half from Cora Wymbs, Liz Escobar and Lola Koontz.

Next up for the Hornets is Gray Stone on Tuesday at home. Game time is 6 p.m.
